Vancouver, British Columbia - The Organizing Committee of Olympic Games and Paralympic 2010 Winter Games (VANOC) today thanked the Canadians and all the supporters who supported the athletes and the Canadian Winter Games 2010 by purchasing a pair of red mittens. More than 3.5 million pairs of mittens were sold during the campaign that lasted five months. The mittens are quickly becoming one of the most durable items and most sought before and during the Games period. The inventory of red mittens is now totally exhausted with buying mortal gold .
"To all those who bought a pair of red mittens, who welcomed a torchbearer in their community who have demonstrated enthusiasm, day after day, that brought mittens encouraging their team sites or television, we thank you from my heart, "said John Furlong, VANOC CEO. "The red mittens are more than just memories and they became the article of choice for supporting the Games. We are grateful to all those who have literally turned their heart on their sleeves. They also decorated several statues, including the dinosaur in Drumheller, the runner Harry Jerome in Stanley Park and the lions of Lion’s Gate Bridge. The sale of mittens was a resounding success from the very beginning, in December 2009, we had already achieved the goal established by VANOC, or one million pairs of mittens.
